I found gander valley custom calls before I knew what I was doing. Glad I did, Mark the owner talked to me for almost an hour before I ordered a call just to make sure I got what I needed. Great service is the norm from him. He even offered to give me basic instruction over the phone if I couldnt make it sound right. |

This does not help me in, to name or not name my calls. Sometimes i cant stand hearing names of calls, but i think alot of people buy calls first by brand name then the name of the call. But when does it stop. How many people want to use the name Crazy Train? LOL! I would rather people buy my calls because the call sounds good, not because the name sounds good.

I would keep it simple like the others said. I would name the calls for the tipe of hunting you would use it for, like a loud raspy single reed call for timber "RCD Single Timber", and a softer double reed for open water "RCD Double Open Water". This is just my 2 cents. It keeps it simple and to the point on what it is. |

I was taught in my survival training that the smallest object that could give a glare could hurt you or save you. A glare off the the face of your watch or even an ink pen can give your location away to your enemy. That same watch can be used to signal an aircraft that is looking for you by reflecting the light to the air craft signaling your location. Now lets look at the highly polished call, its highly polished band, and a duck that has better eye sight than you or i can imagine, and we are in their yard. Who is lame now? |

No one was talking about re-inventing the call, just stating the fact that they do not help you kill ducks or geese, but can hurt you on your hunt. I take it you buy calls on whose name is on it, and how they look. |

Im sorry what I meant to say was that the higly polished, pretty color calls dont help you kill ducks or geese, and neither does the name on the call. Yes calls do help you kill ducks or geese. I understand the point on buying calls that you can make sound as realistic as possible, I try to do the same. My point is that most everyone is trying to please the eye of the hunter with something pretty, and not the ears of the duck so much. I am also trying to point out the oxymoron of duck hunters. |

Clyde, I'm beginning to understand why you've been banned from several forums across the internet already. Since you've just recently discovered the delight of a computer, here's a wonderful primer on internet etiquette: http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-behave-on-an-internet-forum
Back to the topic on hand - my opinion is that any call you feel confident with will straight up put ducks and geese on the dirt. Pink, purple or olive drab, shiny band or not, daisy cutter or a double nasty - as long as you can run it you're good to go.
The names that you seemed to have grown to hate have been widely successful in their marketing attempts - if they weren't, you wouldn't be complaining about them. I think your argument is right along the lines with an old pump mossberg being just as capable at killing ducks as a brand new benelli vinci. They both work, and work well - the capability of putting ducks in the bag is 100% on the person shouldering it. FowlNation - Calling all Waterfowlers |

In response to Lynch Mob Calls < George designed some great calls all with different sounds, I have a ton of calls and keep going back to his. Whats' nice is no shiny silver bands on them. A few years back I saw a guys chrome call band catching the sun Although the bands look nice there really can't be a reason why they are on a acrylic call other than for looks. Georges calls are sweet looking and sound great I have 5 of them and love them. |

I got to agree the way a call sounds should be the reason you buy it. My teenage son had to have a call that cost a fortune because the guy had a TV show. It absolutely sucked it guts were loose and the company didn't fix it. The call company went from making a nice sounding call to grabbing money as fast as it could. Try a call if it sounds good for you buy it not because of the name or who uses it on tv. I bought a 5 dollar call out of a clearance bin and it sounds the best out of all my calls |

That's cute...my daughter types that in her text messages! Did you actually take the time to give my pictures crappy ratings...ooooh you showed me!! Look BOY, if you think you are gonna walk around this forum and bash everything and everyone you're crazy. I don't like keyboard cowboys...take your BS back to the Fuge! Don't try and shit on someones hard work to put this together. I rated your pictures to get more points.....

Don't worry Mike, The way Clydes acting on here he won't last long. This should be a community for waterfowlers to talk hunting, not for one guy to rant about everything he doesn't like. If things don't turn around for him real quick he will be banned so don't sweat it. I also rated your photos for you with all 5 stars to even the world out!
Calls do not help you kill ducks or geese??? What? I buy calls that I can make sound as realistic as possible, I buy calls that I feel comfortable blowing...I buy calls that will help me kill birds day in and day out...I don't care about color or name...if they help put birds in my face...then I'm in!!
I am also trying to point out the oxymoron of duck hunters. no you're not, you're just too poor to afford a shiny pink call, I bet MikeShearer will loan you his. lol lol? Okay rag on me at will.
I use DEATH ROW CALLS
all my calls are hot pink barrels with smoke inserts. With bright shiny bands. With my band of merry men and our tight tights we killed well over 1K birds this past season. I wouldn't blow a call named balls, nor would I blow a call that sucks. Consumers in the US today like flare and pretty colors. Making your calls stand out with colorful names and s$#t is just good business. This may be a pitch for death row but last I checked they have 47 championships and counting. So I am pretty sure they could name their call "s@#t" and people would buy it. CLEARED HOT! |

ALL calls should be olive drab , then the only reason to buy a call would be for sound quality ..... you guys are right when you were saying they need to be flashy , only because IDIOTS shop with their eyes and idiots make them $$$$ ... and lets face it , most callmakers are only in it for the $ now ; i mean seriously how mnay times can someone new to the scene make the same design call? the only thing that seperates most is a color or a name oh and of course the pricetag ; i bought a Zink paralyzer double reed last season for $130 and frankly .... it sounds about the same as my $25 double nasty II just another example of the name dictating the price , not the quality of the call |

I will think twice about asking questions on here, LOL! I don't like fancy name calls. I might put as suggested RCS(for REAL CALLS Single reed) or something like that. I don't want to run with the pack, i want to be in front, by not following Them. Its not about the money, as much as it is making changes needed, in a same old same old call world. I know for some change is bad but, i am going to keep this ball rolling. I expect to take alot of heat from people that don't like change, But i understand their insecurities. Lets have a great year of hunting! And lets fight against the people that don't like us to hunt instead of all the in fighting. |

As far as the calls look, I should think that would be up to the individual hunter, and as we all should know, there is one sure way to conceal a call and that is to cover it in camo tape.
I agree with most, it's how the call performs, not what it looks like or is named. My earlier post was for entertainment's sake. However, I do think it was in real bad taste for Mr. Foiles to name his new call "Crime Scene."
Don, you name your calls as you will...how about "The Performer"? Because they do that. (At least my goose calls do.) "If it flies it dies, and if it lands, it gets the gourmet shot" |

clever name and it is a lot better than calling it a corny "deathly" name like other companies do.

This thread was a hoot I'm sorry I missed it. The legend sounds like a good call hope it works out for you. After reading the whole thread a couple of times there are sure a bunch of points a guy could spend a lot of time pondering. Shinny/dull simple name/extreme name/ no name, bright color/drab. I still use a old wooden call once in awhile( makes a great old hen quack). I also have a few other different calls and some days the bring em in and some days they scare em away. Amazing enough sometimes they come in without calling. (as in where the hell did that come from). For those of you hunting tomorrow as I am> Hunt safe, shoot straight and have fun. |

I like it. I think my calls have the chance to become a legend because of the patented insert. And as you know how i feel about corny names, the more i looked at the call, The more the name stuck in my head. It felt right for the call. Thanks for all of you thought on the matter, And only time will tell if it truly is a Legend! |

You really need a hobby Clyde. Or a woman. Anyway, it doesn't matter what the call looks like or who made it as long as it draws birds in. End of story. |

It is sad but I have witnessed people buying calls based on what they look like. A friend was so sure he wanted a certain name brand call and purchased it without blowing it and it doesn't suit his needs now it's just a $130 piece of jewlery hanging from his neck. Blow the call the way you blow it when your hunting even if it is not your favorite brand give it a shot. I have invested over $800 in goose calls and my favorite turned out bieng a "HOT PINK ZINK MONEY MAKER" the name, shape and color ars all WRONG but it turns geese like no other. |

You have not tried REAL CALLS yet, It might just turn them better? LOL! Getting a call that works is the key! not just buying a name brand. I have had plenty of name brand calls that SUCK! big time. I do a lot of product testing to see what is what. Its not cheap but, i can know for sure how my call compair to others. |
