I'm thinking of making a mud motor this winter and was wondering what H.P. to go with? I got a 14' jon boat at 36" wide and I will try a surface drive. Anyone use this type of setup? I will be in shallow water, not the mud they run in down south. I'll probably use it as my river boat also.

I was just kidding!! I would consider a 5 or 10. Unless you are going long distances. My friend, Jay, uses a 7.5 i think for his 12 foot jon boat and that seems to work well. FowlNation ProStaff / HEVI-SHOT Prostaff |

If I venture into this unknown this winter I will probably get a 7.5 hp or a 10 h.p. I just want to make sure the motor will run good with two guys and gear. Fowlnation staffer |

I own a 27 hp long tail, it is an awesome motor the only thing that sucks about it is the torque steer on it is crazy on it. But that only becomes a problem when you get bigger than 25hp |

I'm thinking of staying under ten so I can go on some restricted water here in MN. Hopefully they'll open it up some day to make it easier on people. Having ducks in MN would help also, haha!
I was looking at a motor from Dixie Motors, Anyone hear anything about them? Click me Fowlnation staffer |

I have a 5 hp briggs plan to make a long tail with this winter. Surface drives are a little harder to make with gears and gear ratios and chains. |
