What's going to the taxidermist this year?

So what are you guys getting mounted this year? What kind of pose?  We got a call from our taxidermist that Joe's mallard drake was done.  We haven't seen it yet, but it must look fantastic because the guy asked if he could use it as his display at an outdoor show coming up.  :)

If you're not sending anything this year to the taxidermist?  What do you have already at home?

Shot 2 beautiful greenheads on the last day I hunted. Getting them both mounted in flying position. A little different then the other. Both with mouths open. My goal is to have 8 to 12 mounted in the flying position. Each in a different position, as to look like a a real flock is landing into the room. Be great to get a couple pintails to add in otherwise they will all be mallards (3:1 greeny to suzie ratio).

Still debating on what to do with my west river whitetail from this year. Dont know if hes good enough for a shoulder mount or to go with a nice european look.

So far I have a mallard, GW teal and a honker mounted at home for birds and 9 deer shoulded mounts.

I have a bull and hen canvasback that I am looking to get mounted, but have not found a decent taxidermist to do it for under $200 per bird. I want them to look good, also in the cupped up flying position hanging from the ceiling without breaking the bank. Also have an awesome wood duck looking to get mounted as well.

Going rate around here is average $200 and then you may not get a good job. If you want a reputable taxidermist that you know will last you will pay more. Had a wood duck mounted for my son $300. My buddy had a snow goose done by the same guy $500. Believe it or not this guy has more work than he can handle. The work he does is incredible, haven't seen better in the area.

Between my girlfriend and I this is what we've got to bring to our bird taxidermist (some from this year and some from last year):

Drake and hen canvasback, drake black duck, drake hood, drake woodduck, drake ring-necked duck. Not sure what we're going to do for poses...Charles (that's the taxidermist) is extremely meticulous and really puts his heart into every piece so we plan on getting his opinion on the poses based on the bird and where we plan for it to be in the house.

Right now I've got a drake and hen bufflehead and a drake and hen redhead in a coffee table. Setting is swimming in some sparse reeds. Those were done a while back and done by a different taxidermist though. Charles did a drake and hen goldeneye that Tyler and I shot a few years back (they're at Tyler's place) and after seeing those and his other work at his home and in Gander Mountain...I can't really see myself taking my birds to anyone else.

Hope you have better luck getting that sprig and speck then I did this year. Been looking for good mature ones of each for years. Congrats on the other mounts!!

That's what I want is a drake Redhead. I think there the coolest drake and I have only had one chance at them and it was a hen and I had to shoot it.

Getting a drake wood duck in a standing position, and a drake and hen mallard that I shot on the last hunt of the season in a landing position. I've attached a picture of the pose I'm getting.

Around $500 It's a little spendy. But to me it was well worth it. I always say you get what you pay for. He has done many mounts for me and never have I had a bad looking one.
