I like using No.2's on early season geese. I know some people think that using No.2's on Canada's is on the light side. My dad and I were discussing this the other day. He thinks you need BB's or better on thoughs big ol' birds as he puts it. But in the early season before they get really wary I think it's good medicine when you can get them in real close. I know I have taken alot of Canadas with three inch 2's especially when duck hunting and the opportunity to shoot geese pops up and you dont have time to swap shells. As the season wears on I switch to heavier loads since the birds are more educated. What do you guys think?

I think 2's are fine. Like you said if they are in your face it will put them down.

3" #2's are my favorite all around shell. I dont like to mess with different loads during a hunt so I take #2's or BB's along that way I can shoot everything. If I am going to hunt only geese then I take BBB. If I am going to do only duck I take 3's or 4's.

Agreed, 3" dueces are my favorite all around go to ammo.

There is no problem with 3"  #2's for geese if they are within reasonable range.  The 3" #2 was my favorite goose load for years.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

3 inch #2's is what i shoot ......... if specifically goose hunting and using regular steel load i would beef up to B or BB .....  non toxic loads #2's are great

As said above all I generally shoot are 2's. Thats from Early season to late season. And we kill some BIG CHUBBY geese in Late december.

If they are within range and you have a good patterning choke or are shooting something like black cloud they are absolutely deadly imo.

I've switched to #2s as my all around go to shell. Kills geese just fine, just make sure you hit em right. Makes it easy to not have to worry about what shells are currently in the gun or swapping them out.

If I were hunting strictly geese, I'd probably bump it up to BB like some have already mentioned.

Only problem with my strategy is 2's are a bit big for teal, but most of them have left our state before the season starts anyways :)

I hunt everything with 2's. I have even shot teal with them they work great. I can also say that you do not want to shoot a teal at 10 to 15 yards with them out of a full choke, there is not much left. I did this last season on a hunt with my brother. When he went out to grab the bird all he said to me was "Take that F%#$ing full choke out!!!".

Good to hear that we all think No.2's are good goose medicine. In my opinion, the 3" No.2 is the all around duck/goose round. Thanks for the input. Told ya dad! LoL!Wink

I've taken geese cleanly with both 2's and BB. Generally, if I'm only targeting geese, I shoot 2's until it gets toward the end of the season and then I'll bump up to BB just for the little bit of extra energy if the birds start getting tough to work and don't finish well.

If I'm strictly targeting ducks, I shoot 3's all season.

Might use #2's but most likely will use BB. Just depends on how the geese are decoying.

2's all around, but going into the late season I shoot BB through my long range pattermaster. I like the total knock down power late season so i dont have to chase cripple's in 2 feet of snow

I like 3" BB's on geese and 3" 4's on ducks.

For geese, I like the Winchester X-pert Velocity 3.5 inch 12 guage shells in size BB .. thinking about trying the Blind Side too ..

I agree #2's are a great all around size for geese and ducks.

Black Cloud 2's worked great this year under 30 yds

But not as good as BB's

I will agree that for all around shot size #2s are probably the best all-around choice.  But for those big Canada's I really like having that extra stopping power of BB's or even BBBs.  Too many times I've had a bird get hit hard and fly away, only to glide down a mile away.   God I hate those walks.

Sorry guy's I didn't even give you the chance to choose #2's for my poll on geese. I prefer 31/2" bb or 3" bbb and 4 on ducks. I switch to 2's on ducks about now as most of the ducks around here have played this game before.
