Hey shnelson, I may have missed it, but I didn't see any threads where everyone could introduce themselves. A couple other forums I'm on have threads like that that the mods make stuck at the top. Not sure if you want to do that or not, but it could be a way for everyone on the site to get to know each other better. Just an idea for ya.

We had one a while ago, but it never got stickied. I think it's a good idea to start fresh with someone other than me as the topic starter.. so I will sticky this one. I'm going to cheat and copy/paste my post from the previous though!

Ok - we've got the 'hello & welcome' thread and the 'how did you find us?', but they're pretty much dead-ended questions and not open for too much conversation. What I would like to start with this one is who you are and what you like to do, etc. I'd even be interested in what brought you to register on the site (if it wasn't the decoy giveaway that sealed the deal).

I'll start... My name's Shawn, and I live in planet hoth - otherwise known as the Upper Midwest. I have a great appreciation for the outdoors and enjoy almost everything it has to offer; my working life is spent in front of a computer screen for the better part of the day so it is good to get out and breathe whenever I can. I started getting serious about duck hunting a few years ago, which quickly turned into an addiction that continues to fuel itself (last fall I was licensed to hunt waterfowl in 4 states and couldn't get enough of it!). I'm hoping for this website to build relationships within all of the flyways, as someday I'd like to say I've successfully hunted each one of them. The idea for this website was born in a duck blind just over a year ago, after a few discussions with a friend we decided to see what we could make of it and try to get it off the ground. It's been a slow process so far, but the turn out over the past few months has been better than expected! I am excited to see what it turns into and can't wait to watch the community grow.

Hey guys my name is Weston Brown from Texas. Currently, I am the proudest member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 2012! I am majoring in recreation, park and tourism science and hoping to develop at least one, if not more, hunting resorts in Texas. I was born in a deer stand, but luckily got introduced to waterfowl 4 years ago and haven't looked back. My college christmas breaks consist of duck hunting nearly everyday with an occasional deer hunt every once in a while. I also love just about every form of hunting and just this past summer got into bowfishing. It is a great off season sport and if any of you get the opportunity to try it out, GO!_x000D_ Thanks and Gig 'Em!

Hey guys my name is Jason and am from central VA. Been waterfowl hunting since 1978, when lead and the point system were king. 10 point pintails were the norm and I swear I see more pintails now when I can only shoot 1 than when I could shoot 10 a day with 23/4 lead number 5 shot. I am mostly a bird hunter (if it flies it gets shot at) but will shoot the "brown cows" until the freezer is full. I am a diver freak and have been known to pass on mallards if I saw black and whites coming in and my screen name speaks for itself. I know all you puddle purists will want to bash, but I will make a deal with you, I won't smack talk about your popcorn and wonderbread fed park ducks if you let me and my fish eating, oyster sucking, crazy hair bay rockets alone. Should be a fun ride and look forward to many pithy conversations with my fellow addicts.

Hey FowlNation. My name is Cory. I live in Wyoming, but was born and raised in Alabama. I was the Waterfowl and Retriever Specialist at Sportsman's Warehouse, but after financial troubles caused the company to cut certain things I decided it was a good time to start training dogs for a living. I am crazy about retriever nutrition and have spent most of my adult life educating myself on it, but still have a lot to learn. I have been hunting waterfowl since I was 3, that was the first time I ever went hunting of any kind and it turned out to be for Canadas on the prairie of Alberta, Canada. Been an addict/junkie since. I use to bow hunt for big game, but now just concentrate on waterfowl and training retrievers.

I found this site through a fellow pro staffer at Duck Junkies and decided to join and see what other addicts could teach me. Glad to be a member and can't wait to start sharing stories, tips, and information as well as getting educated myself.

My name is Kevin.  I am a police officer in Northern IN where I live.  I have lived in my county for my whole life minus the four years I went to college.

Apparently, according to my colleagues, I have been a police officer since Jesus Christ was first laid in the manger.

I'm not politically correct, and I have been approached to be a stand up comic.  You have to be if you're a police officer.

My friend and I started out hunting ducks initially as something to do on a day off.  We learned early that hunting public property has its dangers, most especially floating blinds that are semisubmerged to begin with, that have a tendency to want to upend when you shift your chewing gum in your mouth.  Not to mention trees jumping out at the last minute to absorb that shot charge that was intended for a mallard.

We shifted to goose hunting after a blinding flash of the obvious, that geese are bigger than ducks.  We built box blinds in fields, hid under overhanging trees, etc. in the years before the advent of the layout blind.

When we obtained our layout blinds, we suddenly had more success, did not leave our decoys in the truck, only to walk to the truck later and while there watch geese fly over where we were sitting and enjoyed it more.  We enjoy it now to the point that we don't have to make a major investment in cash every year to buy hunting necessities.

We have hunted together for about 25 years.  We can certainly provide valuable assistance in what NOT to do when starting out.

I guess one of the biggest things that makes me smile being on this site is that sense of belonging, not criticism.  We all have the passion in our own ways to go out to hunt, and if we admit it, sometimes it's not about the bag limit, it's about being out in nature. (And hoping like the dickens that I don't have to take a dump in the "Great Outdoors")

No illegal drug can produce that rush of either ducks or geese coming into the decoy spread, "locked up and cruisin' in".

"If it flies it dies, and if it lands, it gets the gourmet shot"

Hello.  My name is Bob Godwin.  Last year, at age 60 and after living in south Louisiana and ending up in the midwest, I finally got into waterfowl hunting with advice and the whole start of a learning experience from a young friend.  I haven't learned even what end of a duck or goose call to blow into, but I have seen some extraordinary calling in during hunts last year.

I just bought my first set of decoys today (used), and will start practicing calling this week so I can at least make a stab at it when I hunt alone this season.  Does anyone have any advice on where a beginner should start learning to call when there is no one around to learn from?  Tapes, CDs, or websites will be a big help.

Thanks

Bob

Thanks

Bob

Bob - welcome to the addiction!

Where did you move to in the midwest, and do you plan to target mainly ducks or geese?

Howdy, I am Scott Kenny,  near the Missouri side of the confluence of the two greatest rivers in North America.  I hunt the Mississippi River mainly and a few  of the state WMA's too.  We just moved a bit farther west to St Charles County mo.  The Missouri river has been high all summer and the local ramps are closed. I was hoping to do some Mo river scouting this summer I shoot an 870, run a 1648 jon with an Antique 20 hp (1967) Johnson...Those old OMC motors keep running and running....I am a puddler chaser but will take a diver on occasion.. My only mount is a Bull Canvasback...Early this summer I purchased an older Avery quick set, but it was on an 18ft boat so I have to do some minor adjusting to make it fit my boat.  looking forward to this season... I am 59, have one son that hunts, and I love to turn birds that are showing their tail-feathers.

Hey everybody!!  I found this forum through Facebook, and figured I'd join up.  I live in East Central Ohio.  Waterfowling is my passion.  I hunt deer and turkey also, but nothin' gets me fired up like watching the birds work the dekes.  I own a  small custom Canadian goose decoy manufacturing business.  We totally flock and airbrush everything.  We also take customer duck decoys that need refurbishing and flock and airbrush them.  Seems like a great forum!  Happy to be a part of it!  Good luck to everyone this season.  Can't wait, Sept. 1st is almost here!!Smile

Talbisir,  Thanks for the welcome!  From everything I've read on this forum, it seems like a good bunch of guys........ not as much picking and bickering as on some of the other forums.  There's a couple forums that I won't even frequent anymore, because it seems like everybody just wants to be the first one to throw out a smart a$$ comment anytime anyone makes a post.  I don't see that on here, and I LIKE it.  Any way, Sept. 1st is our early goose opener, with teal opening on the 4th I think.  Can't wait, it's been a long summer waiting to get on the geese again!!

Hey All,

My name is Steve Tatum 24, I am from eastern SD. I have been waterfowl hunting since i was 12 but not to seriously until about the last 4 yrs. I love just going out with a group of buddies and relaxing having a good time (not that i dont take it seriously). I joined this site because one of my close friends / hunting partners is always talking about it. I am by heart more of a big game hunter but knock my fair share of birds outta the sky. I love having geese 10 yards feet down back peddling when u call it "KILL EM'" but nothing beets ditch pigging honkers with the ole man. Hope to get to know a few of you a little better!+

Hello everybody. I'm also a new member. I come from LA and started with duck hunting in my holidays 3-4 years ago. I wanted to find some people who share my interests therefore I googled around and found this forum. I'm very pleased that there are so many enthusiasts here that I was nearly forced to register myself :) Nice to meet you all!
