How many of you posses a carry permit for your state, and how often do you actually carry a handgun?

Been thinking about taking a course and putting in a for a permit here, just curious to hear from those that already have it and what drove you to obtain it?

I've had mine for about 10 months,  and I carry whenever I can.  Usually a 5 shot S&W 642 .38 special.

Its nice to know that if something were to happen I'm not the helpless bystander that gets on the news.

As far as why I got it,  because there is no reason to not get it,  because it puts me in a position to help others,  there is no doubt that I can pull the trigger,  it eliminates worries about my families safety in some situations.  As a responsible gun owner and Irish American male its my duty to protect those around me that are to scared to own and operate a handgun for themselves:)

Yes schools.  Here in the USA we often have school shooting.  one was only an hour away from me.

Thurston High School is a public high school located in the Thurston area of Springfield, Oregon, United States.

1998 shooting

On May 20, 1998, 15-year-old student Kip Kinkel was expelled from Thurston High School for bringing a firearm into school. After returning to his home from the police station, he got his father's Ruger semi-automatic rifle, then shot and killed his parents. The next day, on May 21, Kinkel drove his mother's car to the school, and, wearing a long trench coat, he entered the cafeteria and began shooting at students with the rifle. [5]As he was reloading his rifle, Kinkel was subdued by seven other students who held him until the police arrived at the scene. The arresting officer was shocked that it was "just a kid" but his shock soon wore off upon searching the suspects' trench coat, which was full of knives, bullets, and gun magazines. Two students were killed and 22 others were wounded. He was charged with four counts of aggravated murder. He later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 111 years in prison.[6] His case has become one of the standard case studies in profiling students who bring guns to school for purposes of murder, a prelude to the Columbine High School massacre.[7]

Not to be a smart ass dick head but I 'heard' from uneducated americans (on this subject) that you cannot have hand guns in Canada.  Is this true?

Nope not true, just need the proper permit and you can walk down to cabelas or wherever and pick one up that day. And I don't doubt americans carry handguns in school, I was just suprised you stepped inside one.

Thanks for clarifying that.

Another question about firearms in Canada is;

I was at Lacey Washington Cabela's and there was a guy from Vancouver BC buying a gun.  He said it is easier to buy in USA and take it home to Canada.  Is there any truth to this or is this guy just being weird?

What is a 'proper permit'?   here in Oregon you have to be 21 to buy a handgun from a store but you can buy a handgun from a garage sale as soon as you can afford it.     You have to be 21 to buy handgun ammo and 18 to buy long gun ammo.

tell me more about you inferior country please.  I am interested.

No it's as simple as walking in a store, it may be cheaper or something.  But it is a pain to get the permits and there is one for everything.  A proper permit would be a handgun permit??? I don't know what you mean by that.  I'm not sure about the age requirment as I never inquired about purchasing one to deeply. Yes you can purchase machine guns.  And to be quite honest I don't know about the conceal carry as I never tried to carry a gun in public.

here you can carry a gun everywhere except indian reservations federal buildings and anywhere where there is FDIC insured money.  Private businesses can discriminate however they see fit.

To obtain a machine gun in oregon you must pass county and state background checks and then a federal investigation.  It took me 5 or 6 months to pass.  You then must purchase a $200 tax stamp per class III item.

I'll make a video of my machine gun soon.  I just need some targets.
