Anyone build their own wood duck boxes? I have some cedar left over from last years deck project and would like to make a couple boxes if I could.

Wondering if anyone could share some plans, the do's and don'ts etc.

I have made them a few times. When you make them, make sure you put chicken wire up the inside of it for the ducks to use to crawl up and out. That is a MUST. I have heard of the bad stories of them turning into death boxes if you dont.

The plans I used were from my local game warden. He lives 4 miles from me. If you call your local officer he would probably send you a copy of the plans and might even give you wood to make them. Best of luck!

That's a good idea. If I had somewhere to hang them I'd build a couple too. Dad and I built a couple but it was probably 8 years ago now so I don't remember if we had ant issues or not. We used the plans they have in the Outdoor news...I don't remember if they've had them in there yet but it's generally around now when they publish them. The Northwest Sportshow is coming up March 30 - April 3 at the Minneapolis convention center and they generally have an area where kids can build a wood duck box so there is probably info there too. There are also plans on the DU website if you follow this link: Wood Duck Box
