So has anyone looked into the new Winchester Blind Side. Square pellets...I am very interested in finding out how this stuff will pattern.

I haven't had a chance to do much research on them yet, but I've been seeing both good and bad opinions.

Some guys think they wont pattern well because of the shape, but I'd personally like to give em a try if they are priced right.

It's definitely an interesting concept and everything I've read has been positive although I think I've only read 3 or 4 articles. I guess, as with any new products, the only way to truly know for yourself is to test it out.

Blackcloud got there goofy pelets to pattern well, so I think blindsides should do fine. Cant wait to try them out! I've seen pricing anywhere from 17- 25 $ for a box of 20. Anyone heard solid pricing on these yet?

A friend of mine asked a guy at Cabelas when they would have some in to buy and he told us that it wasnt going to be available to buy until next September. I personally think thats a bad idea from Winchester. They should of came out with it this spring so that it could of been tried out before season starts. I dont know what the asking price will be, bu I would guess 20-25 a box.

i've heard good comments about them but i think they'll only pattern well if they hold a tight pattern and once they loosen up they're gonna drop like rocks. probably have really good knockdown force , but i wouldnt use them for anything past 25-30 yards and for the price i'll stick with blackclouds that have proven in the field to knockdown at over 50

Agreed. I am sure I will still buy a box or 2 to try out.

I got the equipment issue from Wildfowl the other day in the mail. I saw an add from Rogers in it with Blind Side for sale. $200 for the 3" and 250 for the 3 1/2".

Cabelas also has the shells online, comparable to the Black Clouds in price by the case, I wonder if that will have an effect on peoples willingness to switch for a test run. http://www.cabelas.com/shotgun-ammunition-winchester-blind-side-steel-shotshells-150-case.shtml

Comparable price and a new product...I'd say that's good marketing on the part of Winchester and am willing to bet it will get people to test it out.

I'll probably try a box, or split a box with gettin6. That seem more likely. LOL

one advantage that i see is more pellets per shot than a normal round pellet. If they pattern well this will be a great plus.

try cabela's or macks.  you are too cheap to buy them anyway.   Hevi-shot is probably better.

Just got the new "Red Head" magazine from BPS. Blindside is priced anywhere from $24 or $28 a box.

MY buddy Steve and I went to Scheels yesterday. He bought a box of Blind Side 3" 2 shot(it was all they had) for 22.95. They are starting to stock pile steel shot. They have 3x's as much ammo out now compared to 2 weeks ago when I was there.

Tried finding blindside ammo at Dicks Sporting Goods, Gander Mountain & Joe's today with no luck. All three claimed they get their ammo shipments tomorrow and it might be coming in on that truck.

Looks like you can buy a box at Cabela's now, and it might even be stocked in stores. Too bad Cabela's & Scheels are so far away from me, I'd be patterning this shot tonight otherwise!

I did do some patterning this past weekend with Hevi Metal, Blind Side and Black Cloud out of a Hevi Shot mid range choke tube.  I figured the Blind Side and Black Cloud would't pattern very well because they both have proprietary wads that each manufacturer recommends getting special chokes for shooting the shells.  Well, the results were what I expected- the Blind Side did pattern better than the Black Cloud, but not as good as the Hevi Metal.  I didn't try out of factory chokes because it was awfully warm here this weekend.  Will probably head back out this weekend as its supposed to cool down.  BTW, patterning was done with 3" shells, #2's @ 35 yds from a Xtrema 2.  Personally, I really don't want to shoot a shell that requires a special choke just for that shell, which is why I'm going to try factory chokes just out of curiosity.  I know Black Cloud still doesn't pattern all that well out of them, I just keep in around because its already been bought and maybe a friend will use it.

My results with my Browning were the opposite. It confirmed that BC is going to be in my bag all year.  It just goes to show how important patterning every gun and load is.   As a footnote did you notice a recoil difference between 1 3/8 oz.blindside and 1 1/4 oz.  others.

Have shot Blindside since goose opener, really like the 3inch 2's. shot great through my gun and really chewed up some close birds! Knock down power after 40 yards is questionable!

Quote10.12.2011 19:580 people like thisLike

I have most unfortunately been let down by blindside as of yet. I haven't been able to knock em down like I can with Xperts, maybe i'm having an issue with leading the birds enough? There's a slight fps difference between the two.

I was able to drop a mallard with 3" 2's (blindside). It was discouraging to see two hex shot pellets lodged in the surface of the breast. I'd expect more penetration with a shot taken at 30-35yds out.

Blind Side! shnelson blind side shoots totally differnt then experts. I use to shoot them all the time and first couple of times it was hard to figure out where i was on the birds, but after i got my judgement figured out it was all good

Bird was at 35-40 yards

Holy crap Horker! Last time I messed a bird up that bad it was about 10yds out lol, that's pretty impressive for 35-40. What choke?

Here's the results on the mallard taken at close to the same distance:

2396b1905d1019d918345271d58d3872.jpg

After being shot at 3 times (who knows how many actually connected), the bird proceeded to fly about 100yds away and just drop out of the sky.

I was very impressed with the results we saw while patterning blind side a couple months back, especially vs black cloud 3" #2s. You might be right that I just need to find the sweet spot with this shot?
